 In the morning stillness, I retrace the route Jesus and his apostles followed that evening, after addressing the farewell to the Jewish people at the Jerusalem temple. 

On their way to their camp at Gethsemane, along the Kidron valley towards Gethsemane, they climbed up the western slope of Olivet to come to their private camp. Looking down Olivet, they saw the temple shining in the setting sun. Matthew was amazed about the splendor of the temple, and said to Jesus:

“Master, look how beautiful the temple…” 

And Jesus said:”

“Verily, Verily, I say to you in the days soon to come, there shall not be left one stone upon another. They shall all be thrown down”.

The moon rose, in the mellow light of the full moon, Jesus and the apostles sat down and Nathaniel asked: 

”Master, tell us, how shall we know when these events are about to  come?”

” That will be the time when these people shall have filled up the cup of their iniquity".

"Very soon, I am about to leave you and go to My Father. After I leave you, be careful, do not let anyone deceive you, because many false teachers will come and lead you astray. Do not trust wolves in disguised sheep clothes.

Do not let rumors of wars, famines, earthquakes trouble you, nor should you be concerned when you are delivered to the civil authorities and are persecuted for the sake of the Gospel of the Heavenly Kingdom. You will be put in prison and some of you will be killed for my sake.

Later I will send The Holy Spirit to be with you. You will not be orphans and forsaken.”

When hearing this, the apostles were bewildered and sad. 

Tears come to my eyes, thinking with the apostles as they  lived with Jesus for three years on the roads, sharing hardships when being chased away by people, sharing joys when they were accepted, or invited to be with friends at the home of Lazarus, Martha, and Mary. 

To the apostles, Jesus was their Great Master, Great Brother, their Comforter, their Protector, and their Lord. So many good memories on the roads with Him, and now they received the bad news of the very soon separation of their Master and Teacher. The news of prison and death for the sake of the Gospel of the Kingdom frightened them.

 

Dear Lord,

The road You and the apostles followed on earth was the road of pain, suffering and finally of death, but that road leads to the glorious Resurrection and Eternal life.

 

Beloved

Remember, when you have by faith once established yourself as a son of God, nothing else matters as regards to the surety of your survival.

 “For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will find it” .

Dear Jesus,

 Let me know You, and let me know myself. Know You to listen to Your Word, and put it into practice in my daily life. Know me to change my path to Your righteous one, to have Heaven in my heart, and You are always with me.

May my meditation bring many more readers,  who are not yet believers, into your Forever Family.
