How would You like me to pray?

My dear child, 

2,000 years ago, I often visited the home of Simon in the village of Bethany. This was the very house where, when I was just twelve years old, my family stopped to rest on the journey from Nazareth to Jerusalem. It was Simon’s family who had invited us in. Later, during My three years of ministry, I and the twelve apostles often stopped at this home to spend the night. It was the family of three siblings—Lazarus, Martha, and Mary—who were of the same generation as Me. They were a virtuous and wealthy family; after their parents passed away, they were left with a vineyard and a private family burial ground. 

Once, when I visited, Martha was busy preparing a meal in the kitchen, while Mary—the youngest of the three—sat at My feet, confiding in Me and listening to My teachings. Martha came up, complaining that Mary was merely sitting and talking with Me instead of helping with the kitchen chores. I said: 

“Martha, Martha, you are anxious about many things, but Mary has chosen the best part, and no one can take that away from her.”

Dear little child,

I want you to come to Me just as Mary did—sitting at My feet and confiding in Me. If there is anything you do not understand, simply ask, and I will answer. This is the way of prayer I want you to do: coming to Me like a small child speaking to his Father. Do not repeat meaningless phrases over and over while your mind is elsewhere—for before you even pray, your Father in Heaven already knows what you desire.

Remember that “The eye is the gateway to the soul.”

If your eyes are bright, your soul is bright as well. Look upon the world with an open, generous gaze, filled with love. Do not live a selfish or narrow-minded life. If your eye is filled with greed, selfishness, envy, and hatred, your soul will become dark. 

Pay no heed to praise or criticism—unless the criticism is valid then, remember to amend your ways. 

Never repay evil with evil, but rather respond to evil with compassion and charity. 

When you perform a good deed, let not your left hand know what your right hand is doing; do not boast. The Father in heaven knows the good deeds you do; these are the riches you store up in the Father's House, and where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. Never hoard worldly wealth, which moths and thieves can steal away.

Dear Jesus, 

I shall forever cherish these words of love and wisdom you have shared today. Please help me return to the path of righteousness whenever I falter. 

Let me know You, and let me know myself. Know You to listen to Your Word, and put it into practice in my daily life. Know me to change my path to Your righteous one, to have Heaven in my heart, and You are always with me.
